ESAT
What is the ESAT?
University Courses - Natural Sciences, Physics, Engineering, Materials Science.
Universities - Cambridge, Imperial, UCL.
The ESAT (Engineering and Science Admissions Test) is comprised of three modules. Mathematics 1 (mandatory for all courses & Universities), and two further modules which vary depending on the course applied for. Each module is a 40 minute multiple choices test consisting of 27 questions.
For Physics and Engineering degrees (excluding Chemical Engineering), students are required to sit the Mathematics 2 and Physics modules.
For Chemical Engineering, students will sit the Mathematics 2 and Chemistry modules.
For Cambridge's Natural Science Degree, the second and third modules requirements vary depending on your chosen programme.
The test can be sat in either October (mandatory for all Cambridge courses) or in January, and takes place at various test centres throughout the country. The test is delivered via a computer portal at the test centre (similar to the driving theory exam), with students provided with a booklet of mini-whiteboards for their working out.

Standard 1:1 Rate: £60/hr
Standard 1:2 Rate: £37.50/hr per student
Before your first tutorial you will be asked to R.A.G rate a copy of the ESAT syllabus, so we can assess where you see the gaps in your content knowledge.
In your first tutorial, you and your tutor will work out a rough schedule together for filling these gaps, including any unfamiliar second year A Level content.
At the end of each session, you will be set homework to consolidate your learning, and stretch your problem solving ability.
Once we have reviewed the required content, we will move on to problem solving practice. In your tutorials, you will discuss solutions to past papers you have attempted yourself in high detail, and review content as needed.
Before the ESAT you will have:
- Reviewed key content, and consolidated your understanding through homework.
- Worked through every ENGAA (the precursor to the ESAT) past paper in high detail (alongside other practice papers and bespoke problem sets).
- Built confidence, and improved your problem solving skills ahead of the exam.
