The TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission) is a 2hr30 multiple choice mathematics test, divided into two sections (each 1hr15 long).
Section 1 is somewhat similar in style to the Mathematics A Level exams, with questions relying mostly on algebraic manipulation, solving equations, geometry, and probability. The vast majority of the material in section 1 will have been covered in year 12 core maths lessons.
Section 2 is focussed more heavily on proof, reasoning, and mathematical logic. Some of material in this paper may be unfamiliar to some students; particularly those that do not take A Level Further Maths, or A Level Comptuer Science.
The test can be sat in either October (mandatory for all Cambridge courses) or in January, and takes place at various test centres throughout the country. The test is delivered via a computer portal at the test centre (similar to the driving theory exam), with students provided with a booklet of mini-whiteboards for their working out.
Standard 1:1 Rate: £60/hr
Standard 1:2 Rate: £37.50/hr per student
Before your first tutorial you will be asked to R.A.G rate a copy of the TMUA syllabus, so we can assess where you see the gaps in your content knowledge.
In your first tutorial, you and your tutor will work out a rough schedule together for filling these gaps, including the unfamiliar content in section 2.
At the end of each session, you will be set homework to consolidate your learning, and stretch your problem solving ability.
Once we have reviewed the required content, we will move on to problem solving practice. In your tutorials, you will discuss solutions to past papers you have attempted yourself in high detail, and review content as needed.
Before the TMUA you will have:
