Teaching Philisophy

At the heart of our teaching philosophy, are three core values: patience in delivery, depth of understanding, and nurturing cursiosity.

• Patience in delivery:

Studying Science and Mathematics is a challenge (at all levels), as tutors we make a deliberate effort to emphathise with our students. We share in the struggle of figuring things out, but also in the joy of understanding.

A good teacher must have a good temperament, and among the qualities we value most highly in our tutors are kindness, patience, and ability to motivate.

• Depth of understanding:

Passing exams or getting admitted to University is the minimum ambition we have for our students. Beyond this, we want to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. 

The majority of our tutors are active researchers, or qualified to at least masters level. In each lesson we try to encorporate a small element of supercurricular material, be this an article recommendation, an extension problem, or an example of how the lesson material is used in the real world. 

Depth of understanding is crucial. Not only for knowledge retention and exam preparation, but also for long term academic success.

• Nurturing curiosity:

Whatever subject you are attempting to master, curiosity is indispensible for long term success. Learning how to ask questions, and being strict with yourself about the answers you give is how science works best. 

By encouraging our students to extend their knowledge (within the syllabus and beyond), and by teaching through guided questions akin to the style of Socrates - we aim to equipt them with the tools needed for high level understanding and exam success.
